Hello. I am writing because I read your article “A Career Path Traveled the Hard Way” in FPA’s Practice Management Solutions May/June 2011 edition. I thoroughly enjoyed it as it reminds me a lot of my own career path. I graduated from Bucknell University in 1997 and entered the financial services industry with T. Rowe Price in 2004. I now work for a financial advisory firm, CAPTRUST Financial Advisors, headquartered in Raleigh, NC.
I am hoping you can give me some tips or pointers on how to move my career forward. For the past 6 years, I have worked in the employee education and advice space. I recently obtained my CFP, but would now like to venture on to a wealth management practice. However, because I have no direct sales experience and no current book of business, I am struggling to get someone or some firm to hire me.
Anyway, any guidance or words of advice would be much appreciated.
